THE BEST OF BURSA: HIGHLIGHTING THE BEST OF BURSA, TURKEY

Medical Information for Tourists

The last thing anyone wants while on vacation is to visit a doctor, but sometimes it’s necessary. Please note, The Best of Bursa and all contributors associated with it accept no liability for services rendered by individuals or institutions mentioned in this listing. We offer no medical advice. Our aim is simply to provide resources for visitors to our city where they can seek proper medical attention.

For emergency situations:

Emergency medical and ambulance services can be called at 112. If you are staying in a hotel, the consierge can assist you in calling and requesting the appropriate services. Often, larger hotels offer on-site medical services such as a doctor or nurse. These professionals can offer basic care until other emergent care arrives.

For all medical situations:

Bursa has numerous hospitals. They are categorized as state (devlet) or private (ozel) hospitals. State hospitals usually do not accept foreign or international insurances, though their services will be offered at a discounted rate compared to private facilities. Private hospitals often accept foreign insurances, but visitors should double check with a local hospital to verify specifically. Two hospitals that our team of contributors have used and have experienced quality service from are Acibadem Hastanesi and Medicana Hastanesi. Both have on-staff translators, emergency rooms, and offer a comprehensive list of medical services.

Visiting a Pharmacy:

It is common for people with non-urgent illnesses to visit the local pharmacy (eczane) to ask advice from the pharmacist on staff. Often they can give over-the-counter medicines to help address common ailments. Medicines are mostly provided by Turkish brands, but will contain the same active ingredients as most foreign name-brand medicines. Be familiar with the active ingredients of your normal medications and a pharmacist can likely find it’s local equivalent for you. For medications requiring a prescription, you will need to visit a local hospital.

Other Resources:

Be sure to check your passport-country’s embassy website or travel recommendations for other advice on vaccines to get before travel to Turkey. Some embassies also provide listings of doctors or facilities with language-specific resources.
