THE BEST OF BURSA: HIGHLIGHTING THE BEST OF BURSA, TURKEY

Hüsnü Züber Evi, the House of Ottoman Antiquities

by | Nov 4, 2019 | Bursa's Neat Places, Culture and History

We recently received an inquiry from Nicholas J. asking about the wooden spoon collection at Hüsnü Züber Evi in Muradiye, Bursa. Nicholas, we’re happy to tell you that this museum is beautifully restored and open for visitors!

Built in the 19th century, Hüsnü Züber Evi is an Ottoman style home. It was used as a state guesthouse in 1836 and later as the Russian consulate. From 1877-1988, it was converted into a private residence and purchased by a man named Hüsnü Züber. After undergoing significant restoration, it was donated to the local municipality as a living museum.

The museum artifacts give an incredible glimpse into life during the Ottoman days. One of its most unique collections is its handcrafted wooden spoons.

Züber died in 2015, but his memory lives on for his expertise in wood cauterization and folklore research.
