Çukur Han Entrance Bursa, Turkey

There are more than a dozen hans scattered throughout Bursa’s downtown bazaar complex.  Çukur Han is one of my favorites.  Maybe one of the reasons I like it so much is that it’s a little hard to find.  Tucked away among the bazaar’s booths and shops, the front door is easy to miss if you’re not looking out for it.  Many people don’t even know it exists.  My wife and I recently took a lifelong local friend of ours there for a cup of tea.  As we walked into its courtyard, our friend was quite surprised.  “Wow,” she said, “I never knew this place was here!”  If you’re diligent to find it, or if you’re lucky to stumble upon it, Çukur Han is a nice, quiet, relaxing place to grab a cup of tea and a bite of lunch.
