The world is a different place than it was just a few months ago. Every area of our lives has been affected by COVID-19, including our travels, recreations and means of finding rest. Sadly, Bursa has not escaped these effects, but as the world enters a “new normal” of life and tourism, we press forward with wisdom and responsibility. Here are a few of the questions about Turkey in general we have been asked in recent days:

Can I travel to Turkey for a vacation?
Turkey is open to foreign tourists. Its land border with Iran and border to Syria remain closed. Flights are running on adjusted schedules, but with regularity. Tourists should expect to adhere to all airline requirements for flying into the country. All normal visa requirements apply.

Will I have to quarantine upon arrival?
As of January 22, quarantine is not required upon arrival in Turkey, but visitors must provide proof of a negative PCR test. Travelers will be required to wear face masks, complete a passenger locator form, and submit to a COVID-19 screening (including temperate checks and, if symptoms are present, a PCR test). Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 will likely be referred to a local hospital for isolation and further treatment.

What are the current restrictions?
(1) Face masks must be worn in public areas in all of Turkey’s 81 provinces, including Bursa. Additionally, face masks must be worn in private vehicles when 2 or more people are present. (2) Passengers will not be allowed to stand on public transportation where social distancing cannot be observed. (3) All live music in public venues (including cafes and restaurants) is forbidden after midnight, (4) no dining facilities are allowed to accept seated guests, but most are receiving orders for take-out between the hours of 10am-8pm, (5) daily curfews are in places: all people are under curfew from 9pm-5am each night and curfew extends Friday night at 9pm until Monday morning at 5am; 65+ year olds are only allowed out of doors from 10am-1pm; 18 and under are only allowed out of doors 1pm-4pm. Additional restrictions are also in place. Please check your country’s embassy for more information, such as the American Embassy’s COVID Information page. Please note, some curfew exceptions are available for visitors on a 30 day tourist visa. Be sure to check with your local guides for confirmation on any current permissions. 

What if I get sick in transit or while I’m in Turkey?
Dial 184 while in Turkey to reach the Ministry of Health COVID-19 Hotline (available in Turkish, English, and Arabic). Suggestions from the Best of Bursa for touring:

• Focus on outdoor attractions.
• Follow guidance from local authorities (i.e. masks, social distance, cleanliness, etc.).
• Venture out during weekdays rather than weekends when possible.
• Reconsider crowded venues and activities.
• Look for “COVID-19 clean certifications” when booking accommodations.
